Music
Introduction
Music Department programs are designed to prepare students for music ministry within the church, to prepare students to teach private music lessons, and to prepare students for state certification and qualify them to teach in Christian, private, or public classrooms around the world. The curriculum seeks to produce graduates who are proficient as praise/worship leaders as well as able to organize and administrate the total music program. Music graduates are also proficient as performers in their specified field of music.
Upon completion of this program students should be able to:
- Demonstrate basic proficiency in a major and minor performance area;
- Demonstrate understanding in the fundamentals of Music Theory;
- Demonstrate conducting skills and rehearsal procedures;
- Demonstrate the ability to prepare and lead praise/worship;
- Demonstrate the ability to administrate the complete church music program.
- Demonstrate knowledge of pedagogical procedures for teaching choral/instrumental classes in grades K-12 by successful completion of course work and student teaching.
The music major’s course is a demanding one including practical ministries; thus excessive extracurricular activities are seriously discouraged. Motivation for reaching the high goals of music ministries will be evidenced by the same degree of spiritual commitment and must be guarded and nurtured daily. Spiritual and emotional maturity will be needed in making wise decisions as to daily use of time and music facilities.
The teachers are genuinely concerned about your musical and spiritual progress. They expect you to accept the challenge of improvement from an adult standpoint and are available for counsel.
