Choosing the College That’s Right for YOU

First, off, WHY even go to college?

A degree can help you get a great job in the field that

YOU choose

  • A degree from an accredited University can help you compete in tomorrow’s work place
  • The average pay for a college graduate is double the amount earned by a those with a high school diploma.
  • College life is great!

Ok, so what TYPE of college is right for me?

Community Colleges typically offers preliminary courses required at a University, Associate’s Degrees, and technical training. Community Colleges are great for a head start, but do not offer extensive training in any one area.

Public Universities offer many degrees in a large variety of areas. Attending a public university in your own state may be cost efficient because of scholarships and often the ability to live at home. Bigger Public Universities have several campuses around the state.

Private Universities usually cost more and are more specialized. Some, like Ivy League schools, are both expensive and prestigious. Others are priced to be competitive with other schools while still striving to offer a particular genre of classes.

Assemblies of God Colleges and Universities specifically educate ministers and laypersons in the A/G.

With all of these choices, why should I choose a CHRISTIAN college?

  • Why not choose a Christian college? Great atmosphere, chapel services, professors who have the same values, and fellow students who are willing to be a support for your relationship with Christ – these are all unique bonuses in choosing a Christian college.
  • If you want to approach life as a ministry, the right Christian college can give you a great foundation.

Can I AFFORD it?

  • So you already know that some private colleges cost more that others, but the great news is that many Christian colleges are competitive with their public university constituents. (Table of costs)

How do I make college a SUCCESSFUL experience?

  • Come prepared to study and have fun
  • Know your degree and plan how to accomplish it
  • Work in your field

What else do I NEED TO KNOW?

  • Southwestern is considered “the” Assemblies of God School ; the only one in the A/G to still hold daily chapel services, and have “Assemblies of God” in its name (which makes it really long to say). The staff and faculty take a personal interest in the lives of the students, opening every class with prayer and welcoming students into their homes. Professors apply Biblical truths to their area of expertise for a Pentecostal Christian perspective on your future field of employment.

  • Waxahachie – It’s not only fun to say, it’s fun to spell. The town is not only historical, but is growing to include more restaurants and businesses every day. Dallas is a stone’s throw away with malls, great places to eat, fun places for entertainment and plenty of other weekend activities.
