Dr. Amanda Lee was recently selected as one of five winners of the Texas International Academy and Festival Teacher’s Concerto Competition in collaboration with Van Cliburn Foundation and the Fort Worth Symphony.
Every year, approximately 20 performers from around the world are chosen from auditions for Young Artists, Teachers, and Amateurs. Performers in the teacher’s category were allowed to compete in the festival concerto competition, a first for any teacher’s program.

President Bridges Leads Invocation at Texas House of Representatives

President Bridges gave the opening prayer for the Texas State House of Reps. Assembly on Tuesday, April 10. A written copy of the prayer was recorded in the bound copy of the official minutes of the session.
Earlier this year, Bridges was contacted by State Representative Gary Elkins (District 135, Houston/Harris County), an alumnus of SAGU (1978 graduate) and member of the SAGU Board. Representative Elkins invited President Bridges to open the session in prayer.
After the Speaker of the House, Tom Craddick, called the session to order, Elkins introduced Bridges as the president of SAGU and referenced Elkins’ status as an alumnus and Board member. President Bridges called the assembly to prayer and prayed that each member would seek and receive the wisdom and understanding necessary to legislate fairly and faithfully. He also prayed a blessing over the representatives. The prayer was followed by recitation of the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge.
During their visit, President Bridges and his family were allowed to meet representatives and tour the capitol building. Though access to the capitol dome has been restricted for several years, the Speaker invited the Bridges to take a tour. President Bridges described it as “a breathtaking experience that we will never forget.”
