Active ImageA dear friend of Southwestern was honored on Monday, November 12, as the second floor of Bridges Hall was officially dedicated as the Andrea McKnight Floor. During chapel, President Bridges presented Andrea’s husband, children, and parents with a special plaque to commemorate the occasion.

Andrea McKnight was born to loving parents Andrew and Nancy Hunger, in Refugio, Texas, on March 27, 1959. She was raised in Assembly of God churches and received Christ as her Savior at an early age. On December 27, 1980, she and Rev. Irby McKnight were united in marriage. They served the Lord together for nearly 25 years before Andrea passed away as a result of brain cancer.

For the last 14 years of her life, Andrea served Harvest Time Assembly of God in Sherman, Texas, as the pastor’s wife and administrator of the church. Andrea was also a great catalyst to the missions vision of Harvest Time A/G. Though not an alumnus of SAGU, Andrea loved Southwestern and became a member of the Southwestern Women’s Auxiliary after marrying Irby, who is a graduate of the university. She and her husband served SAGU on the Alumni Council for approximately ten years and eventually as the Alumni President.

The congregation of Harvest Time Assembly of God in Sherman, Texas, made generous contributions toward the Momentum for a Higher Purpose campaign, originally pledging $100,000 to be paid over four years. The church has since raised the pledge to $250,000 with the intent to contribute $50,000 a year. These funds are coming through the church’s strong missions program that Andrea was so instrumental in establishing.

Andrea loved the Lord and her family. Irby served as alumni president for four years and is currently serving SAGU as the Planned Giving Director. The McKnights have two children: Jordan is currently a graduate student at SAGU and Erin is planning on attending SAGU once she completes high school. “We’re honored that Southwestern has honored her,” Irby commented.
