On January 8-9, 2008, representatives from nine districts came to Southwestern Assemblies of God University for the 71st annual Prayer and Bible Conference. Participants that took advantage of the opportunity for "prayer, consecration and spiritual refreshing" included district leaders such as Rick DuBose, North Texas Superintendent; Ken George, New Mexico Superintendent; Doug Fulenwider, Louisiana Superintendent and Executive Presbyter; Larry Moore, Arkansas Superintendent; and West Texas Superintendent Bob Slaton as well as General Treasurer James K Bridges, Kermit and Jan Bridges, Jack and Carol Pruitt and Executive Presbyter J. Don George.

Since its inception in 1938, this meeting has become the longest running prayer and Bible conference in the Assemblies of God. In the 2008 meeting, leaders continued the tradition of maintaining the two core emphases of prayer and ministry of the Word.

A Tuesday evening service kicked off the conference with General Superintendent Dr. George Wood speaking on revival. The conference included various prayer focuses, such as prayer for the United States and the Assemblies of God. Wednesday began with a special session devoted to prayer, followed by morning, afternoon and evening services.

Dr. Gaylan Claunch, NTD Assistant Superintendent, expounded on lessons one can learn from David’s experience in a sermon entitled “Let us Bring Back the Ark” in the morning service. According to Claunch, “We’re nothing without the presence of God.”

In the Wednesday afternoon service, SAGU President Dr. Kermit Bridges shared statistics that represent the spiritual condition of today’s youth and delivered a sermon entitled "Contending for the Faith." North Texas Superintendent Rick DuBose spoke in the concluding service on Wednesday evening and reminded pastors of the necessity of depending on God to add a supernatual dimension to ministry.
