A scene from the upcoming film The Imposter was shot in SAGU’s Sheaffer Full Life Center on Saturday, February 9th. SAGU students served as “extras” in a concert scene of the film. The Imposter is a full length feature film starring Kevin Max (of dcTalk). The film is being produced by Dan Millican, Jeff Rodgers and Troy Baker of Serendipity Films. The Imposter deals with the lifestyle and subsequent breakdown of a Christian Rock singer. As much as an inside look into the Christian music industry, The Imposter is also a story of redemption and self-discovery. Max’s character, “Johnny C” is the lead singer of a faith-based, chart-topping band, but his drug addiction and ego send him on a downward spiral in which he loses everything that’s meaningful in his life. “It’s basically the ‘prodigal son' story,” Max explains, “And it is one that every artist, rebel or wayward person can relate to.” “I wanted to write a story that is real,” states Millican. “It’s about walking out what you believe, not just talking.” Max adds, “The integrity level on this project is amazing. Reading about my character and what he goes through brought another jolt of love for the Creator and His grace and love for us.” Max brings with him an insider’s knowledge of the music industry with his Grammy winning music and his off-Broadway theatre experience. According to Max, "I have wanted to get involved in film for quite some time now, but my schedule and music always took the lead… At last, I have found something that fits where I am as an artist, and a story that I can believe in.” Renowned worship leader Jeff Deyo has joined the cast opposite lead actor Kevin Max as best friend and band mate, James. “The musical element of this film is crucial to our story,” Troy Baker, the film’s co-producer and music supervisor explains. “To be able to show the dynamic between Kevin (Max) and Jeff (Deyo) and provide a stage to display the artistic caliber they possess is nothing short of Providence. What they both bring to the table artistically not only raised the bar for the music in the film, it shot it into the stratosphere. We’re ecstatic.” "I’m very blessed to be appearing in the film The Imposter,” says Deyo. I love the story of redemption... that in the midst of our bad decisions and selfishness, God doesn’t write us off but desires to transform us. Whether it’s through my songs or in the character of James in this film, this is the message God has called me to proclaim." The film has also attracted music industry legend Kerry Livgren (Kansas, AD, Proto-Kaw), who has been cast in a supporting role. According to the film’s co-producer Troy Baker, “So often we have idolized Christian artists almost to the point of deifying them. Their humanity is lost in the limelight we so easily thrust them into. This film not only deals with the lifestyle and subsequent breakdown of ‘Johnny,’ it also pulls back the curtain on the Christian Music Industry. At its very core, though, The Imposter is a story of redemption and self-discovery, and what it truly means to believe.” |
