Every year, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) staff and board members make nominations from their region for various awards. Regional winners are automatically included in the same category on a North Texas-Wide level.  SAGU was awarded with the Faith-Based Partner of the Year for North Texas.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas covers thirty-four counties, which are broken into ten regions.

The award was officially presented at a Volunteer Appreciation Party on March 29th at the Arlington Convention Center.  Vice President of Student Services Rev. Terry Phipps accepted the award on behalf of the university.  Also present to represent SAGU at the banquet were Irma Phipps, Vice President of Advancement Rev. Irby Mcknight, Director of Career Services Beverly Robinson and Teacher Education Department Chair Dr. Donna Townsend.

According to the BBBS organization, “SAGU has been an integral part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters family in Waxahachie.  Beverly Robinson, Director of Career Services, has been a champion.  Serving as a Big Sister herself, she was led to get SAGU involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.  Beverly has set a goal to have 100 mentors from the SAGU campus and is responsible for helping Big Brothers Big Sisters put applications in the hands of all Education, Youth Ministry and Psychology students and staff.  SAGU is very involved in the community, and through their goal of 100 mentors, they have helped to get the word out to Ellis County of the need for mentors and how mentoring can impact the next generation.”
