On April 4th, twenty SAGU athletes from various sports participated in the annual Right Choices Rally at Wedgeworth Elementary School in Waxahachie, Texas.  The event included students from grades 1-5 and consisted of different stations of camp style games followed by Jaroy Carpenter speaking about making wise choices and how the choices of today affect the future.

SAGU athletes and Wedgeworth students alike enjoyed the interaction and games of the event.  The rally is a reward for the elementary students that encourages trust, honesty, relationships and right choices, characteristics that will help them in their future.

“[The team from SAGU was] just phenomenal!” said Wedgeworth teacher Sarah Beratto, who helped coordinate the event.  “We really appreciate them helping with this event. We hope that we have the opportunity to work with SAGU again next year.”  SAGU Coach Greg Hayes was also instrumental in scheduling the event.

This community outreach is part of the Southwestern Athlete Outreach program.  Carpenter would like to have similar interactive school assemblies in every school in Ellis County.  Later this month, the Outreach will be involved in school assemblies at Peaster High School and Jacksboro High School.
