![]() The SAGU History Department recently announced plans to host a study tour to London in May 2009. The tour will be of both historical and literary interest and is open to SAGU students, alumni, faculty, staff and adult friends. London is the largest urban area and capital of England and the United Kingdom. An important settlement for two millennia, London's history goes back to its founding by the Romans. Since its settlement, London has been the center of many important movements and phenomena throughout history such as the English Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the Gothic Revival. The SAGU tour includes The Strand, Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Houses of Parliament, Piccadilly Circus, St. Paul's Cathedral, Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, Bath, the Tower of London and the British Museum. According to Dr. Gary McElhany, “We believe students need to be exposed to different cultures. The British Museum alone has artifacts from Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Greece. These items are things we’ve seen pictures of in textbooks, but we’ll be able to stand next to the real thing on this trip.” The department hopes London 2009 is the first of many History Department trips to various locations. SAGU is also offering three hours of credit at half-tuition through this trip. The approximate cost of the trip is $2,500-$2,800. Payment plans are available for the trip, though full payment must be made by February. An informational meeting will be held on campus Thursday, April 17, at 6:00 in room S2231 of the Full Life Center. Those who are unable to attend this meeting may obtain information, and enroll, online at www.eftours.com (Click on “students/parents”, then check out or enroll in the tour using the tour number 491821). For further information, contact Dr. McElhany at gmcelhany@sagu.edu or 972-825-4625. |
