Following an Interdepartmental seminar about American Puritans and the Salem Witch Trials, the SAGU Drama Department will perform The Crucible March 6-8. The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller that takes place during the time of the Salem Witch Trials. “There are so many dynamics to this play,” said Director Skip Redd, “I want [the audience] to walk away with a sense of a history lesson, but I also want them to walk away with the idea that their choices in life matter and one person can make a difference.”

Cast members are looking forward to the challenge of the production. They consider their characters to be rather intense but diverse. “She’s a very strong character,” said Jenna Williams who is set to play Elizabeth Proctor, “she’s very good and to her goodness in a person is more valuable than anything else.”  Markie Rydholm comments on her character, Mary Warren, “She is different from any character I‘ve ever played. She’s way more emotional; she gets into screaming bouts and crying. I think every act I’m in I’m crying. She just goes through so many emotions it’s hard to keep up ‘cause she’s different each time you see her.”

The play is certain to bring to life the facts of the seminar and reinforce the history of the event. The event is also open to the community. For ticket information for The Crucible, contact Skip Redd at sredd@sagu.edu or 972-825-4659 or stop by the Media Services office.
