Waxahachie, Texas- March 17, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team lost a non-conference match-up against Manhattan Christian College 16-9. The game went nine innings. The Lions are currently 9-20 for the season.
SAGU was the first to score in the bottom of the first. Jake Killion reached base on a MCC bobble. Killian then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Jake Payonk grounded out to short, scoring Killian. While more runs looked promising, SAGU stranded three on base.
The third inning was one SAGU would like to soon forget. The Lions gave up 12 runs on 10 hits while committing one error.
In the bottom of the seventh, SAGU was able to rally and score six runs of their own. The first three batters reached base on a walk. Elijah Young hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Jesse Chelette . Tallon Ralstin singled to shallow left field, once again loading the bases. Hagstrom was able to score after Chris Wallace was hit by a pitch. Jake Killion singled to shallow left, scoring Carroll. Jake Payonk hit in Ralstin and Wallace was able to score the sixth run thanks to MCC’s wild throw.
Going into the eighth inning the score was 14-9 with MCC in the lead. MCC added two more runs in the top of the ninth.
Ty Chiglo started on the mound and pitched two innings. He had two strike-outs, gave up six hits and had nine runs scored. Keegan Harris pitched three innings, Anthony Montalvo pitched two innings, Carson Conarty and AJ Munos each pitched one.
Offensively, Tallon Ralstin was two for four with two runs scored.
The Lions will restart Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) play on Friday March 18, 2016, against Mid-America Christian University . MACU is currently 12-10 overall and 4-2 in the SAC.
