Waxahachie, Texas- November 13, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team will play their last game of the season against Bacone College (BC) on Saturday, November 12, 2015. The Lions are currently 6-3, tied for the winningest season in program history (set in 2013). BC is 2-8 overall.
“Like always, Bacone is very athletic,” says head coach Frank Tristan , “Coach Livingston has them playing their best football now. Defensively, they will pressure Collins with different looks that we haven’t seen before.”
The Warriors are led by quarterback Trey Seward . Seward is averaging 131 yards passing. His completion rate is 46%. Running back Roderic Mackey is averaging 69 yards per game.
Defensively, Bacone is led by linebacker Shawndell Kirkland . Kirkland leads in tackles, sacks and interceptions. He averages eight tackles per game, has two sacks total and two interceptions on the season.
BC is 2-3 in the Central States Football League (CSFL). Their two wins come from Wayland Baptist University and Lyon College.
SAGU is coming off of a bye week. Their last game was a loss in the CSFL conference championship against Arizona Christian University .
SAGU quarterback CJ Collins currently leads the conference in passing, averaging 212 yards per game for 57%. Chaz Moncriffe is leading the Lions in receiving with nearly four catches per game, averaging nine yards per catch. The last two games Moncriffe has scored a touchdown in each game. Running back Ricky Bickham is rushing for an average of 64 yards per game.
Senior Jeremiah Maat is averaging seven tackles a game. Junior D’Vonn Brown is averaging over one sack per game as well as earning two tackles for loss per game.
Before the game, the Lions will honor 13 seniors; Venique Benton , Shakeem Taylor , Tyler Jenkins , Eric Smith , Jeremiah Maat, Brishad Richardson , Derius Griffin, Caleb Shelly , Michael Umphenour , Deonte Morrison , Mohamed Mansaray , Trevor VanKempen and Austin Hines .
The 2015 seniors are the first seniors to earn a winning record while at SAGU. If they earn a win on Saturday they will end their college football careers with a record of 21-19. All 13 seniors have been at SAGU for four years.
