Siloam Spring, AR – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) traveled to Siloam Springs, AR for their first Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) game of the season to take on John Brown University (JBU). The Lady Lions (3-2, 1-0) held of JBU (2-5, 0-1) and won by a score of 69-59.
Top Performers
- SAGU had three players in double-figure scoring. Sydney Meador ( JR/Denton, TX ) led all scorers with 21 points. Lexi Rich ( SR/San Antonio, TX ) pitched in 17 points and Kiara Glenn ( JR/Ennis, TX) managed 13 points of her own. Those players combined for 73% of the scoring for the Lady Lions.
- Alexis Casher ( JR/Irvington, AL ) was the only player on either team with double-digit rebounds with 10.
- SAGU shot 85% from the free-throw line.
- The Lady Lions were able to narrowly win the rebounding battle 40-34 which in a close game certainly made a difference.
Lion Review
- The first quarter was tightly contested. The biggest lead of the quarter came from SAGU up 8-5, but JBU took a 15-14 advantage going into the second period.
- JBU committed 6 turnovers in a sloppy second quarter. The Golden Eagles managed only 4 points and trailed SAGU going into the half 24-19.
- JBU opened up the quarter on an 8-4 run to draw themselves within one point at 28-27. Kiara Glenn buried a three-point field goal to give SAGU some breathing room.
- The teams were tied at 37 until Tamera Derrough ( SO/Mansfield, TX ) made a basket with :03 remaining in the third quarter.
- JBU turned the ball over and had some early fouls which allowed SAGU to build a 10- point advantage.
- The Golden Eagles didn’t go away but had to foul late and SAGU made them pay as they went a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe to close out the game.
What’s Next
- SAGU (3-2, 1-0) will continue their road trip as they travel to Muskogee, OK to battle Bacone College (1-4, 0-0) on Saturday November 22 nd at 2 pm.
