The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team began their 2019 season with a four-game sweep over Randall University . Friday games resulted in an 11-5 win and then a 7-1 victory, Saturday’s first game ended 8-3 then a 6-5 victory to end the weekend series. This is a rematch from last year’s opening weekend with Randall taking two out of the four games.

The Lions were on fire batting wise hitting eight doubles and eight triples with a .314 batting average against Randall. Infielders, Ben Bills and Houston Johnson both compiled a 1.000% slugging percentage; Bills had four hits on seven attempts with one double and one triple for a .571 batting average, Johnson had six hits on 12 at-bats with two doubles and two triples for a .500 batting average. AJ Munoz was next for the Lions batting .400 against Randall with two doubles and one triple for the junior outfielder. Andrew Diaz, Ryan Cole, and Tanner Lindle all ended with one double each then Kyle Coolidge, Lindle , Kyle Contreras, and Derrick Clement each finished with a triple.

From the mound; Logan Mann, Ben Bills, Dennis Smith, and Augie Martinez each recorded wins on their first outings with each of them staying under a 2.00 ERA. Mann maintained a 0.00 ERA allowing zero runs over 2.1 innings and only one hit. Bills pitched six innings on the weekend allowing one run on five hits for a 1.50 ERA. Dennis was efficient over the five innings of work only allowing three hits and one run to finish with a 1.80 ERA. Martinez was similar with a 1.80 ERA over his five innings allowing six hits and one earned run.

The Lions will have another home battle against Dallas Christian College on Tuesday at 2 pm for their fifth game of the season.
