Samuel Northey and Christian Cross made it easy for the voters of the Sooner Athletic Conference and NCCAA weekly awards from their games against Ottawa University . Northey was awarded Offensive Player of the Week for both, as well as, Cross for Defensive Player of the Week. The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions defeated the Spirit in a key conference game 56-34.

Northey is a senior receiver from North Richland Hills, TX , and attended Birdville High School in NRH. He dominated the stat sheet reeling in 12 passes for a total of 256 yards and three touchdowns from CJ Collins . Northey tied the season-high for catches in a game amongst the SAC and now is the leader for the conference for receiving yards in a game. During the game, he had two 50+ yard touchdowns blowing past the 11 defenders from Ottawa. In the 2018 season, Northey has a total of 40 catches for 601 yards and six touchdowns which puts him near the leader board for the national NAIA rankings. He ranks in the top 20 nationally for the following categories: 4th with an average of eight receptions per game, 6th with 40 total receptions, 7th in receiving yards per game (120.200), 9th nationally with 601 total receiving yards, 10th in all-purpose yards (793), and 11th in all-purpose yards per game (158.600). Northey is having a constant season putting up numbers every game and someone Texas College is going to have to do their homework on.

On the defensive side, Christian Cross was a force Ottawa University couldn’t keep away from the ball with his huge game Saturday. Cross is a freshman defensive back from Tomball Memorial High School in Tomball, TX . He picked the Spirits quarterback off three times for a total of 49 interception yards and returning one for a touchdown. He also had four tackles on the day and one pass break-up that made a high powered offense think twice about putting it in the air. Cross is ranked nationally in the NAIA in multiple categories: 1st in total interceptions (6), 3rd with an average of 1.2 interceptions per game, and 19th with an average of 1.6 passes deflected. He also has 24 total tackles, 0.5 tackle for loss, and one forced fumble.

You can see Northey and Cross Saturday night at 6 pm when the Lions face the Steers from Texas College for a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup. The Steers are 0-2 on the season with a 36-7 loss to Texas Wesleyan University and a 31-27 loss to Arizona Christian .
