Waxahachie, Texas – October 29, 2015 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU ) professor Rob Price was the guest speaker for the screenwriting workshop, “ Mastering A Movie’s Beat Sheet: The Secret Structure to Successful Screenplays ,” at this years Christian Media Association’s (CMA) Media Summit conference in Grapevine, Texas .

Price said, “Building an idea from its first spark through the finished screenplay requires careful structure and planning.”

In the session, Price introduced the eight steps to write a successful screenplay . He focused on the critically important “ Beat Sheet ” component that is based on the model from the book ” Save the Cat ” written by Blake Snyder.

SAGU Digital Media Arts student Rita Feregrino shared, “In his script writing class he mainly uses the text book ‘ Save The Cat ‘ so he did a fast breakdown of the class and how he uses this book.” She continued, “He used ‘ The Devil Wears Prada ‘ to go minute by minute explaining what event happens at each minute. For example, what minute the character gets abandoned, what minute the ‘no hope’ moment is, and what minute the triumphant moment happens. All good films follow this layout to the tee.”

SAGU Media Ministries student Kaitlin Popelka said, “For me it was an informative and learning experience, the highlight of the workshop was hearing Price speak. Now I’m pumped to take his Script Writing for Theater and Film class next semester.”

Since 1992, CMA has helped Christians connect, build and grow their media ministries. They quickly grew into an association to help thousands of churches that used media and developed numerous relationships with media and music ministers. By 2003 they were holding media conferences across the US teaching and networking Christians in media.

Price graduated from Evangel University in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting/Journalism and later received a master’s degree in TV/Film from Regent University . He is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Screenwriting & Film Studies from Hollins University .

He worked several years as a TV reporter and producer for the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) and later as the evangelism and media outreach pastor for seven years at Lakeview Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Currently, Price is an assistant professor in the Communication Arts Department at SAGU teaching various digital media courses. Since 2008, he has served as executive producer of four award-winning student films at SAGU. His most recent project, which premiered in March 2015 at Showbiz Cinemas in Waxahachie, Texas, “Drawing a Blank,” is a full-length feature film shot and released in 4k, the highest cinema quality to date at SAGU.

Under his leadership, students in the Digital Media Arts program have accumulated more than a dozen national awards for individual and team film productions. He is committed to advancing the film industry across the North Texas area.

Popelka added, “He always talks about his passion to make a difference in the world through his students. If there is someone to train us up and make us valuable to Hollywood and/or Christian organizations, media-wise, it would be Price.”

His passion for God’s Kingdom extends beyond the scope of electronic mass media communication. Price has served on more than a dozen short-term mission trips and authored two books, “Blood Brother” and “The Blood Covenant.
