Waxahachie, Texas- November 2, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s soccer team added another win to their record after topping St. Gregory’s University (SGU), 3-1. The Lions have their best record in program history, going 9-8-1 overall and 4-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC). SGU is now 5-10-2 overall and 2-6-1 in the SAC.
SAGU scored quickly after 10 minutes of play. SAGU senior Robert Ambrosie passed to senior Parker Sturgeon , who found the back of the net. The Lions took the lead, 1-0. The rest of the first half remained scoreless.
Less than two minutes into the second half, SAGU’s Isai Bonilla made the second goal of the game.
In the 82 nd minute of play, SGU’s Mark Dunleavy scored off of a well-placed free kick. Dunleavy’s goal made the score 2-1.
Only three minutes later, SAGU’s Ambrosie capitalized off of an SGU defensive error, and scored his 18 th goal of the season, clenching the 3-1 victory. In Ambrosie’s first three seasons he scored 15 goals combined. Currently, he ranks no. 12 in the NAIA in total goals scored for the season.
The Lions have ended regular season play in fifth place in the SAC. On Friday, November 6, 2015 SAGU will play Oklahoma City University (OCU). OCU is fourth place in the SAC. Earlier in the season OCU beat SAGU 4-0. The game will be at Oklahoma City University and the time is undecided. Follow SAGU Sports Network on facebook and twitter for updates.
