The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s soccer team dropped home games against Dallas Baptist University and Florida National University in Waxahachie . Dallas Baptist took control of game but game two against FNU was proved to show improvement taking two halves to take down the lions. FNU is loaded with international talent with only one student athlete being from the states. As the game progressed still at 0-0, Rodrigo Costa a sophomore from Brazil scored an unassisted goal to start off the day for the two teams, 1-0 FNU up. Seconds later the Lions recovered the ball, Heriberto Diaz dishes it to forward, Mazvita Chidarara and ties 1-1 30 minutes into the game. FNU scored back to back goals from Sebastian Aldunate to give them a 4-1 lead. Right before halftime the Lions gut the gap when Diaz and Chidarara again got in a great opportunity to score, this time it was Diaz capitalizing off the assist from Chidarara. The game in reach at 5-2 for the Lions, they had a solid 17 minutes of defense not allowing the high paced offense from Florida score. After making some substitutes, FNU finished by scoring three more goals, handing the SAGU Lions an 8-3 loss.
Dallas Baptist was led by junior, forward, Riley Unger who scored 3 goals in less than 30 minutes of play giving him the hat trick and the Patriots the win. The Lions fought hard against a talented DBU teams holding SAGU to 6 shots on goal, Mazvita Chidarara led the Lions with 3 shots on goal.
The Lions will be back in action this Friday night against Dallas Christian at 5 pm in Waxahachie.
