The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team went 2-0 in the St. Thomas Classic in Houston on Friday (12/28) and Saturday (12/29). They defeated Goshen College from Goshen, Indiana , the first night of the tournament by a score of 78-62 and Philander Smith College (PSC) the second day by six, 70-64. This is the Lady Lions third win in a row and their fourth win in the month of December to put their record at 8-4 and 2-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference .

Against Gosher, SAGU dominated the second half winning 48-30 to finish out day one with a victory. Junior guard, Lexi Rich scored 33 points for her second 30 point game of the season on 24 shot knocking down six of her 14 attempts. She also had six rebounds, two assists, and one steal in almost 39 minutes of play. Kiara Glenn was the other Lion in double digits with 14; Glenn and Tamera Derrough both led the way with four assists. Derrough and Jenna Price were next with nine points each, Price had seven rebounds with three of them being offensive.

Day two of the tournament was similar against PSC, Rich and Glenn led SAGU with 20 each to give them another big second half that was too much for the Panthers to handle. Sydney Meader knocked down three three’s to give her 16 points and three rebounds for the Lady Lions. Price was impressive again on the boards with 13 total to go along with eight points.

The Lady Lions will be back in action this Thursday and Saturday to resume conference play. They will travel to Wayland Baptist University Thursday for a 6 pm tipoff and Saturday at Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a start time of 2 pm with the men following both games.
