The Sooner Athletic Conference tournament is set after the three-game series against Texas Wesleyan University over the weekend. The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions were swept by the Rams in this series. The Lions stayed put in eight place in the SAC and will face the #1 seed University of Science and Arts on Friday, May 3rd. This side of the bracket will have SAGU at USAO with a game time of 11 am then (4) Southwestern Christian vs. (5) Wayland Baptist University at 2:30 pm. The losers of these games will face off for an elimination game at 6 pm and the winners will play the next day at 1 pm still in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the Bill Smith Ballpark .
Looking back at the regular season this has been the best season wins wise with 22 and conference wins in over 15 years and something they will look to extend in the post-season. The Lions are ranked nationally in four different offensive categories: 32nd in total triples (13), 35th in total doubles (94), 44th in triples per game (0.260), and 45th in doubles per game (1.88). USAO is ranked in nation offensively as well, whoever’s pitcher is hitting their spots for game one will win with these two high powered offenses. USAO won the regular season games three games to zero then SCU won the series against WBU two games to one.
Ben Bills, AJ Munoz, and Andrew Diaz have all hit over .300 during the regular season with Bill and Munoz each having 17 doubles and two triples each. Diaz complied 11 doubles and four home runs with Munoz having a team-high five. Bills, Logan Mann, Jared Anderson, and Augie Martinez all had under a 6.00 ERA during the regular season with Mann having the best record at five and one.
