Real-World Experience and Resources
SAGU’s BSW program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and is part of the University’s overall academic program accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. BSW programs with CSWE accreditation offer students a strong academic foundation for entry-level social work positions as well as admission to graduate social work (MSW) programs with advanced standing (completed in half the time).
As a BSW major, you will acquire knowledge in generalist social work and related disciplines like research methods, policy analysis, human behavior theories, clinical skills assessment, and diagnostic techniques. Our curriculum is broad in scope including: research-informed practice; theory; values and ethics; the history, purpose, and philosophy of the profession; and a practical understanding of practice settings, social institutions, contexts, and clients.
You will also gain hands-on experience through internships, clinical work, and community service opportunities with local organizations. The success of our graduates speaks for itself – 100% of our graduating classes since 2021 are employed in social work (or related field) or pursuing a Master’s of Social Work.
