Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Men’s Basketball Head Coach Donnie Bostwick has announced his resignation from leading the Lions. Bostwick is the winningest coach in SAGU history and has amassed a 152-56 record while leading SAGU in four back-to-back NAIA National Championship Tournament appearances.
“This has been one of the most difficult decisions of my life,” Bostwick says. “I love what SAGU stands for and the wonderful presence of the Spirit of God that surrounds the university. The past six years have been pure joy and full of God’s favor. The support I have received from SAGU leadership has been nothing less than amazing.”
The year before Bostwick stepped in as Head Coach, the Lions had a 10-22 record. Under Coach Bostwick’s first year of leadership in 2011, the Lions went 33-5. In 2013, Bostwick won Conference Coach of the Year and led SAGU to the National Championship game, ultimately falling 88-62 to Georgetown. He was also named as Conference Coach of the Year for 2014 and 2017 and won conference championships in 2014.
Throughout his head coaching tenure, Bostwick has recruited and developed 12 all-American honorees.
While Bostwick has proven his effectiveness as a coach, SAGU Athletic Director Jesse Godding believes Bostwick’s impact on the SAGU community is much more than just basketball wins. “His intentionality with players in their spiritual walk, his desire to see God glorified in all he does, and his servant attitude to the school and community will be his legacy,” Godding says. “We thank him for his service and wish him the best.”
C oach Bostwick will be returning to Oklahoma Wesleyan University to be closer to his family.
